A personal journey. A lifelong commitment to service.
Behind YetmAyehu Foundation is a deeply personal belief: education can open doors, compassion can restore hope, and one opportunity can change the course of a life.
Dr. Yetmwork Berhanu · Founder · 30+ years in medicine Born in Ethiopia, our founder learned early the importance of education, perseverance, and the opportunities that come from someone believing in your potential. The loss of her father shaped her understanding of life's challenges, and of the lasting power of a parent's love, encouragement and sacrifice.
Her father's strong belief in education and independence became a lasting source of inspiration. Despite hardship, she continued her education and earned the opportunity to study medicine in Cuba. She became an OB/GYN and served Ethiopia before moving to the United States, where she continued her service as an internal medicine specialist and built a career caring for others.
As a physician in women's health and internal medicine, she has seen how much healthcare, dignity and access to opportunity matter. Her enduring connection to Ethiopia has deepened her commitment to vulnerable children, women and families.
YetmAyehu Foundation grew from this journey, and from the belief that service should reach beyond single acts of kindness to create opportunities that transform lives and communities. Today that vision continues through faith, compassionate service, local partnership, and lasting change.
Our faith inspires our service. Our compassion welcomes everyone. Our commitment is to lasting change.
← Our storyHelp keep a promise to a generation of girls.
Her grandmother never had the chance. Her father taught her that school was survival. Dr. Yetmwork is passing that chance on to girls in Ethiopia, and inviting friends and family in Minnesota to join her.
Join her. Every gift keeps the promise going.
